Natural resources such as oil and fresh water are being consumed at an alarming rate.

What problems does it cause? How can we solve these problems?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

The time has come for international soul-searching about the environment. The industrial revolution has changed the relationship between humanity and nature. In this essay, I intend to explore the problems caused by the increased consumption of oil, forests and freshwater and suggest some solutions.

Talking about oil first, it is well known that oil is non-renewable and so will finish very soon. Pollution is another problem that is caused by the use of oil. Oil is used in vehicles, industries and homes. Simple measures can be taken to lessen its use. At the individual level, we can use more public transport; we can make lifestyle changes and use fewer luxuries. At the government level, people can be educated. More effort can be done to research an alternative source of energy.

Secondly, water, especially fresh water, is another big area of concern. There can be no life without water. Water is the most precious commodity today. Fresh water resources are depleting fast. At an individual level, we should use water conservatively and recycle water wherever possible. At the government level, desalination plants can be set. Strict laws can be enforced for industries against the pollution of fresh water by effluents.

Finally, because of deforestation, many animals and plans, which provide us with food, medicine and other valuable products, are facing extinction. We have less bio-diversity also. Moreover, when trees are cut, the soil is exposed to heavy rain and so in washed away. The soil also becomes infertile. Also, trees absorb carbon dioxide, which causes global warming. If there are no trees, there will be an increase in greenhouse gases and this would not be good for our environment. Afforestation should be promoted as a solution.

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that oil, forests and fresh water are very necessary if we have to survive. So we should use them judiciously, else our future is bleak.

People are encouraged to get rid of things to get the newest fashion and the latest technology.

Do the disadvantages of a throwaway society outweigh economic advantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

It is irrefutable that consumerism is promoted in many nations of the world. This essay intends to analyse the positive and negative effects of use-and-throw culture. I personally believe that the disadvantages outstrip the advantages.

On the positive side, consumerism leads to mass production, which is something good for the employment sector. Mass manufacturing definitely leads to mass employment. This is undoubtedly beneficial for the overall economy of the country. Furthermore, because of consumerism, people get choices. When there is demand, more and more manufactures come into the market. For instance, about two decades ago, there was only Kissan tomato ketchup in the market; but today we have Maggi, Heinz, Del Monte and many other variants of tomato ketchups in the market.

On the downside, consumerism promotes a use-and-throw culture, which is very bad for the environment. There is a lot of rubbish generated because of excessive consumerism. Unnecessary packaging is also done to make these goods appealing to the eye. Often, this rubbish is not decomposed and ends up in rivers and waterways. This is definitely harmful to the environment.

Secondly, consumerism makes people workaholic to afford these products. This workaholism makes them forget to draw a line between work and leisure and also between work and family. The desires never end, and consequently, over-working becomes a part of life. This leads to stress and strain in life. Another negative point is that when children or youngsters are lured by these things and their parents cannot afford them, then they resort to petty crime as pick-pocketing, chin snatching which is certainly not good for any society.

To sum up, consumerism had both merits and demerits, but the cons are definitely more than pros.

Some people say that industrial growth is necessary to solve poverty, but some other people argue that industrial growth is creating environmental problems and should be stopped.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

The two most dangerous problems faced by a developing country are poverty and environmental pollutions. Many people believe it is industrial growth that can solve poverty, and others believe it is the causes of many environmental problems. This essay intends to analyse both perspectives. I, however, agree with the former view.

To begin with, without industrial growth it is nearly impossible for a country to develop, and the development of a country directly affects its citizens. Industrial growth benefits nearly all citizens of a country. For example, in rural areas, most of the poor are engaged with agriculture. When such a country grows through agricultural exports, it benefits both the poor farmers and even the poor labours. Similarly, industrial growth helps to create a lot of job opportunities and eventually causes a rise in the wage that reduce poverty.

On the other hand, industrial growth is also responsible for many environmental problems such as air pollution, water pollution and land pollution are worth mentioning. Industries are the major cause of air pollution since the operation of factories results in the emission of pollutants, including organic solvents, respirable particles, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. These pollutants can both public health and the environment. Sometimes wastewater of the industries discharges them untreated. As a result, it causes environmental woes including pollution of groundwater reservoirs and surface water also. Additionally, leakage from the fuel and energy industries, as well as industries involving hazardous materials, are the main causes of land contamination. Therefore, the properties of soil result in pollutants remaining in the soil long after the pollution incident.

To conclude, although there are some drawbacks associated with industrial growth in a country, I believe these problems can be solved easily if the government takes necessary steps against it and opine that, industrial growth is the only way to reduce poverty.

Many people believe that today there is a general increase in antisocial behaviour and lack of respect for others.

What might have caused this situation?

How to improve it?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

Some individuals believe day by day peoples are being antisocial and disrespectful with others. This essay intends to analyze the causes of this phenomenon and will suggest some ways to ameliorate the situation.

First of all, in today’s world, everyone is competing with each other to lead a better lifestyle. As a result, people have become selfish, isolated and workaholic to satisfy their heart greed to become more wealthy than another. Secondly, changing the family structure is also a big cause of this phenomenon. The trend of the nuclear family affects the kid’s behaviour. Because no one is there to monitor the kid’s behaviour when both parents go to work, They just left their children in the hand of media like TV and the internet or some uneducated housemaid. Therefore, they didn’t have the proper education of social manners. Eventually, they become antisocial. Additionally, the values of a social culture are being lost day by day because of globalisation. People tend to follow the global culture rather than the traditional, which is also considered antisocial and disrespectful by the orthodox elderly.

There are many possible solutions to this problem. To begin with, people have to learn to strike a balance between work and family life. Governments should also fix the maximum hours for workers to work per week. People should revert back to the old joint family system, which would be beneficial for everyone. The children would learn the moral values and the elderly would be well looked after. Also, the media can play a vital role in highlighting the good points of traditional and western culture so that people can adopt good social values.

To sum up, anti-social and mutual lack of respect in today’s time can be dealt with by taking simple measures, and individuals and governments should collectively take these steps.

Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at a primary school rather than secondary school.

Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

Learning a second language which is spoken all over the world is really important. Normally, children start learning a foreign language at secondary school, but some believe children should start learning a foreign language at primary school. While there are many advantages and disadvantages associated with this topic, the positive aspects take precedence over the drawbacks.

There are many reasons for which children should start to learn a second language at an early age. First of all, studies show that a child can pick up a language better than teenagers. Because they can absorb materials faster than the others. It required less time to teach a child any foreign language. Secondly, almost every primary school design their curriculum in a way that the kids can engage with them. So, implementing a foreign language lesson in the primary will give a better opportunity to learn the language with less effort.

However, there are some disadvantages are also associated with this. Sometimes the primary school teachers may not qualified enough to guide the students, and provide lessons in a foreign language. As a result, students may get demotivated, and it also causes a negative experience in case of learning a second language. Additionally, at an early age learning two languages may cause mental pressure for some kids. For example, at school, they have to follow a foreign language; on the other hand, at home, their parents will talk in their mother tongue. Therefore, kids might not be able to differentiate between both languages.

To conclude, there are a few drawbacks while studying a foreign language in primary school, but there are also a plethora of advantages that outweigh the negative aspects. Students should start learning a foreign language in primary schools.

Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example working for a charity, improving the neighbourhood or teaching sports to younger children).

To what extend do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

Nowadays, everyone is so busy with their daily life, finding a charity worker or the people who once worked in the community services are rare to find. Many people believe that high schools should include unpaid community services as a compulsory part of their programmes. I also strongly believe, by doing this, it will help not only a country to develop but also improve a student’s extracurricular activities.

First of all, every year governments spend a huge amount of money on community services like neighbourhood improvement, charity works and so on. According to Time Magazine, only in 2020, the USA spends almost 2 percent of its yearly budget on community services. If the high schools make it a compulsory program, then the government won’t need to hire workers. As a result, the expenditure in this sector will decrease, and governments can use this money to improve other sectors. I believe it will be very beneficial for a specific country to develop.

Secondly, this program will help the students to develop an extracurricular activity, and it is really important for a student to get admission into a high ranked university. The top universities around the world accept student’s admission not only based on their merit or academic report, but they also look for students who are active in extracurricular activities. Also, students are offered scholarships by many universities if they have the potential to do something better for their country.

To conclude, I strongly believe every high school should include the unpaid community services in their study program, it will bring only benefits for the country as well as for a student.

Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

It was said that “Health is the key to all happiness”. But now, the ratio of public health is decreasing day-by-day. Some people believe that an increased number of sports facility will help to improve public health, on the other hand, others think that it wouldn’t have a significant effect on public health and some other measures are required.

Increasing sports facilities like outdoor sports will help everyone to improve their health. Finding an open space or a playground has become rare in a city because of population growth, and industrialization. As a result, peoples don’t have any chance to play any kind of outdoor games. Having a playground in the neighbourhood will be very beneficial in case of increasing public health.

On the other hand, only increasing the sports facilities will not going to help if we don’t control our diet. Health experts believe that “good health of individuals depends about 75 per cent on a healthy diet and the rest 25 on exercises”. But, in today’s world, the fast-food consumption rate is relatively getting higher day-day-day. As a result, increased sports facilities are not effecting significantly on public health. Also, there are many people who love to play mobile and computer games rather than outdoor games.

To conclude, I believe only increasing the sports facilities will not going to help if the peoples are not concerned about their health. So we should make people conscious about their health, encourage them to have a healthy diet and limit the time of playing video games.

Every year several languages die out. Some people think that this is not important because life will be easier if there are fewer languages in the world.
To what extend do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

There are around 6500 languages are spoken in the world today where every language is totally different from others. Among them, many languages face extinction almost every year, and according to some peoples, language extinction is not an important thing. They believe if there are fewer languages in the world then life will be easier. I completely disagree with this view and think that we should take proper steps to save these languages from extinction.

First of all, I believe that each and every language helps to make the world a diverse and beautiful place. Every year millions of tourists visit foreign countries, not only to watch the beautiful places, they want to explore the different cultures and languages around the world, and these two are strongly related to each other. If there are fewer languages in the world then there will be no diversity as well as countries will lose a fraction of their tourist attraction because every language in the world will be similar and there will be nothing to explore.

Secondly, languages are not only a medium of communication, there are emotions and histories are also associated with them. There are many countries around the world that fought for their language. For example, the war of 1971 between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Around 3 million Bengalis died in this war for their language and now Bangla language has become the 7th most spoken language around the world. Similarly, there are many unknown stories and struggle available with small languages which no one knows, and I think these histories and languages are worth saving.

To conclude, I strongly believe this diversity of languages makes the world more attractive and every language is contributing to this process and I think that the governments should come forward to save the small language from extinction.

Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.

To what extend do you agree or disagree with this problem?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

It is clear that living in a foreign country has its own benefits and drawbacks to consider. I agree with this statement; however, I think that anybody coming to another country should respect the national culture. In this essay, I would like to outline the social and practical problems.

The social problems would be the language barrier, which means that a person coming from another country might not be able to speak and understand the language which might be a problem as far as a person who is living in a country, and a person who came in the country. Another problem is linked to the language barrier but it might influence the behaviour of others. An individual who comes into the country might offend others with their behaviour or language. For example, some cultures like English people prefer to be polite and say things differently from other cultures. Therefore a person who doesn’t know how to behave in a particular culture might offend others around him.

The practical problems would be a misunderstanding of culture. That means that a person who visits other countries does not understand other culture and he behaves as he wants to.

The second practical problem would be finding a job. An individual who works in a foreign country might not be appropriate for the people he serves. For example, if an individual work in a restaurant, local citizens of the country doesn’t respect the behaviour of the person who works there, it might be because of the cultural differences.

To summarize, it can be said that there are a lot of misconceptions which people have when they come to a foreign country, and in my opinion, people should educate themselves in order to know the behave in different situations with different cultures.

Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

The answer is complex since there are a lot of choices in our lives and all of them are different kinds. In some cases, I would say that it is a good thing to have the ability to choose from a wide variety. Take, for example, gastronomy. Every single person has different meals on their list of favourites. Actually, if you have a bigger family it is almost impossible to cook something that everyone would like. Therefore, I would say that it is great that you can go to a shopping centre and choose from a dozen different food types. I can always find something that looks delicious.

Naturally, there are some people who say that it is against evolution. They claim to say that back in the old days we had a perfect life when technically everybody was farming. I personally disagree with that. I am happy that I could choose a job that fits best to my abilities. I mean no one is the same, why would we want to do the same? Different kinds of universities give us the opportunity to become who we are meant to be. We have the right to choose.

However, there is one topic where, according to my opinion, we have too many choices. This specific are is television. There are hundreds of channels, therefore you can always find something worth watching. Literally, you could sit on your sofa that whole day and watch films. I think that people doing less outdoor activities are the results of the many available channels. From this point of view, I would agree that we have too many choices.

In conclusion, I would say that we can’t generally talk about choices since they could be different. In some cases, it is good to have many of them while in other areas they could have a negative effect.
