Model Answer: 1

Well, there are lots of elder people in my life, and I respect them all. Because our culture taught us to respect old person, and obey their words. Besides, I believe the senior citizens are the backbone of a society and younger people should take their suggestions and implement them in their life.

But today I would like to talk about an old person whom I admire and respect. He is my grandfather. His name is Rakin Ahmed. He is in his early 70s, but still, he is fit compared to other elder people of similar age.

He has done his masters in political science and worked as a teacher in a local high school. He still loves to teach students and is a big fan of sports like football and cricket. I respect him not only because he is my grandfather, but the person he is. He speaks very politely to everyone, and he believes if you want to get respect from others then you must learn first to respect others. He always supports me, and give me the motivation to do my work. So, my grandfather is the old person whom I love and respect a lot.

But today I would like to talk about an old person whom I admire and respect, he is one of my teachers from high school. His name is Ashikur Rahman. He taught me English for 3 years. He was one of the best English teachers in my high school. He cared for us as if we were his sons and daughters. I think every student loves him.

Above all, I was most influenced by his way of teaching. He taught us in a really interesting way, and he was able to make any boring topic interesting to the students. Besides I was also influenced by his lifestyle, which was so simple and worthy of respect that I really wanted to copy him. He is now retired from teaching and we are also graduated from high school, but my friends and I often visit him at the weekends.

Model Answer 3:

As we all know that elders are our roots and our existence without them is impossible. Like it is an old saying that ‘old is gold with this we can understand the importance of old people in our lives. Today, I would get this opportunity to talk about an old person whom I know and respect. He is my grandfather. His name is Arab Ali. He is a great man. He has crossed the age of sixty, but he does not look like an old man. He is an early riser. He always speaks quietly and slowly. He helps all who come for help. For instance, I still remember that a person was in a dire need of money and no one helped him. My grandfather gave him ten thousand rupees instantly. He thanked a lot to him. That’s why he is very famous in our society for his helpful and noble nature. Everyone loves and respects him for his kind behaviour. I like his company. So I love spending most of my time with him since my childhood. He often narrates to me the experiences of his life. He has seen many ups and downs in his life but he never gave up and got success by dint of hard work. I learned a lot of things from him. He believes in drudgery. He also makes me understand that come what may never give up. He always supports me and tells me what is good and bad for me. To be honest, he is down to earth personality. He loves me a lot and I also love and respect him. Actually, he is my role model. I aspire to be a successful man like him.

Part 3: Follow Up – Questions & Answers

Describe an old person you know and respect

1) What qualities does a person need to have to take care of old people?

Well, the elderly sometimes acts like a child. That’s why I think a person needs to be patient when taking care of old people. An elderly sometimes suffers from the difficulty of hearing, so the person should not lose temper while taking care of them. He should try to make them understand patiently what is good or bad for them. Also, he should be very polite and respectful towards old people.

2) Do you think old people should be taken care of at home?

I think, in the old age a person should spend maximum time in their home with his/her family. So obviously I think, the elderly should be taken care of in their home. But if the younger members are working, then professional caretakers should be hired to look after them.

3) How can people in the neighbourhood help the elderly during an epidemic?

In the epidemic, the elderly are the people who are in the most danger. So they should not leave their houses to stay safe. People in the neighbourhood can ensure their safety by buying vegetables and groceries for them so that they don’t have to go out during an epidemic. Neighbourhood people can provide medicine to the elderly and sometimes help them to cook their food.

4) Do you see this kind of help occurring in your neighbourhood?

During the corona lockdown, I’ve seen something like this. An elderly couple is living in our neighbourhood. Their children are living abroad. During the lockdown, every people in our neighbourhood took great care of them. People brought vegetables and groceries for them so that they didn’t have to go out. My father also used to call them daily and asked them if they need anything. If something was needed then he used to buy it for them and deliver it to their home.
