Answer

Learning a second language which is spoken all over the world is really important. Normally, children start learning a foreign language at secondary school, but some believe children should start learning a foreign language at primary school. While there are many advantages and disadvantages associated with this topic, the positive aspects take precedence over the drawbacks.

There are many reasons for which children should start to learn a second language at an early age. First of all, studies show that a child can pick up a language better than teenagers. Because they can absorb materials faster than the others. It required less time to teach a child any foreign language. Secondly, almost every primary school design their curriculum in a way that the kids can engage with them. So, implementing a foreign language lesson in the primary will give a better opportunity to learn the language with less effort.

However, there are some disadvantages are also associated with this. Sometimes the primary school teachers may not qualified enough to guide the students, and provide lessons in a foreign language. As a result, students may get demotivated, and it also causes a negative experience in case of learning a second language. Additionally, at an early age learning two languages may cause mental pressure for some kids. For example, at school, they have to follow a foreign language; on the other hand, at home, their parents will talk in their mother tongue. Therefore, kids might not be able to differentiate between both languages.

To conclude, there are a few drawbacks while studying a foreign language in primary school, but there are also a plethora of advantages that outweigh the negative aspects. Students should start learning a foreign language in primary schools.

  1. In the era of globalization, learning a second language is an global demand. As a result ,education systems around the world is debating about the appropriate timing where students should be able to study foreign languages for the first time in their life. In many countries teaching second language courses starts in secondary or high schools. However, a number of educationalists argue that it would be better if those courses were introduced to students of earlier ages for instance, primary school students. Personally, I think that this suggestion holds more benefits than drawbacks.
Firstly, grade school students are carefree because they don’t have to study mathematics, physics or care about their university choices. Consequently, they have better opportunities to learn new languages in a joyful method without stress older students usually encounter.
Secondly, it is widely known that the younger people are the better they can learn and assimilate. So introducing foreign languages for example, French or English to children between 5 to 11 years old will be much better and more beneficial than introducing it at later age.
On the other hand, I believe that primary school students do not fully understand the depth of their mother tongue, hence learning a new language which has its own grammar and vocabulary may causes them a sort of confusion that will probably negatively affect how they speak their original language.
To sum up, learning a second language in an early life stage hold a lot of promises and benefits for our children but this should be studied thoroughly before application to get the optimum results we are looking for
